‘Really disappointed’: Abbie Chatfield’s clothing brand disappears

Abbie Chatfield appears to have called time on her popular clothing brand Verbose The Label, only a year after its launch.

Fans tell Abbie ‘this is how clothing should be done’

Just one year after its launch, Abbie Chatfield appears to have called time on her clothing brand Verbose The Label.

Verbose, which caters for Australians sized 6 to 26, was celebrated upon its release last May for its promotion of size inclusivity and diversity. Fans also lauded the popular media personality for the label’s “genius” shopping experience.

However, the brand’s Instagram account has not been updated since March 6 – and in a possible attempt to clear inventory, Verbose recently marked down the prices of all remaining items on its website and listed them as “final sale”.

While the brand’s ABN is still active, as of Monday, it has no available stock and most pages on the website return a 404 error message.

News.com.au has contacted Chatfield for comment.

Disgruntled shoppers have also inundated the comments on Verbose’s social media page over the last month, inquiring about pending or missing orders.

“Hello! I’ve tried three times to contact you but no response yet! Received notification [my order] was on its way on May 1, but the tracking shows, and post office search, that the item was not received by the sorting centre. Could someone please let me know when I can expect to receive the items I ordered? Thank you,” one customer wrote.

To which another replied: “I have the exact same issue. Tracking number generated on 1 May but clearly has not shipped. What is going on @verbosethelabel.”

The first shopper responded that she was “really disappointed – more so considering what the brand is supposed to stand for”.

“We are trying to lift up and support female-driven business and currently what I can see, many of us are hundreds of dollars out of pocket with no communication.”

“The label has gone to sh*t isn’t it obvious? Closed. Failure,” another commented.

Chatfield launched Verbose with her sister Jolie after working on the brand for 18 months.

Items sold out within minutes of dropping, with the 27-year-old describing the collection’s pieces and its ethos of “fashion is inclusion” as “very me”.

It comes after Chatfield, who rose to fame as runner-up on Matt Agnew’s season of The Bachelor, admitted that she’s “breaking” under the pressure of her current workload.

“I am so beyond lucky to do what I do for work. I f***ing love it. But I’m breaking,” she wrote in a recent Instagram post.

“I’m on the verge of tears at all times. If one thing goes wrong, the floodgates open. I have so much pressure on me all the time to be fun or entertaining or at the very least have something of value to say. It’s draining. Physically and mentally.”

Chatfield described her mental health lately as “the worst it has been in years”.

“The first quarter of the year brought a level of work stress that I had never experienced. I won’t go into details, but all of this led me to having consistently dark thoughts that I couldn’t shake,” she said.

“I’m not trying to get sympathy, I guess I’m just trying to say this is maybe not what you think. This industry, I love it, and I love all my jobs but that’s kind of the issue. It’s addictive and intoxicating and f***ing fun. Until it isn’t. And you are commodifying parts of you, and there isn’t much left just for yourself.”
