A Bunnings customer has urged people to keep their receipt after they were able to secure a swap almost two years after originally purchasing the item.

Kat Dumont said a lockbox she purchased at Bunnings had rusted out.

“Even the keys inside are rusted,” she told her TikTok following.

She said the lockbox wasn’t cheap, and after discovering it was meant to be weather resistant on the Bunnings website with a lifetime warranty, she decided to return it.

“It’s only 18 months old, it should not be like this. The girls could barely get in, like the numbers won’t roll,” she said.

Ms Dumont said as a Virgo, she liked to be organised and therefore kept most of her receipts. She fortunately still had the lockbox receipt from May 2023.

So, she headed into her local store where staff happily replaced it with “no issues”.

Her experience led her to encourage others to always hang on to their dockets.

Social media users were thoroughly impressed and shared heir own experiences.

“Bunnings is by far the best company for returns and exchanges. They’re always so accommodating,” one person commented.

Another suggested: “Scan Flybuys and all your receipts will be on the app”.

“They can search and reprint receipts. They have to hold them for seven years minimum,” one said.

Another social media user added: “Bunnings are excellent with exchanges/credits. I’ve gone in with the date of purchase on a credit card statement. Staff member looked up the amount, printed my receipt and processed an exchange.”

“At the register tell them to SMS your receipt and they will. never need to worry about keeping Bunnings receipts,” another added.

A Bunnings spokesperson said the customer experience was important.

“Providing our customers with the best experience is really important to us, and that includes offering an easy returns policy. We always recommend customers keep their receipt to ensure the process is as easy as possible,” a Bunnings spokesperson told news.com.au.

With a receipt or tax invoice, Bunnings offers a full refund. However, products must be unused and in original packaging.

Refunds will be processed on the same payment method.

Without proof of purchase, staff will use identification when processing returns. They can only do an exchange or store credit.

The Bunnings website also explained all goods come with a guarantee, and customers are entitled to “a replacement or refund for a major failure, and to compensation for other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage”.
