BRISBANE’S famous seafood family, the Gambaros, are taking their expertise to the supermarket, launching a new fish range in stores.

Gambaro2Go Fish will be available at 21 Drakes supermarkets across Queensland from February 19, with the range including frozen packs of wild-caught North Queensland barramundi and mackerel fillets.

“Our family has had over 53 years of experience in the seafood industry, and during the early days of Covid lockdowns, we saw a demand for retail packs of high quality, wild-caught, sustainable, Australian, fresh frozen fish products,” said John Gambaro, who noticed most current supermarket frozen fish was imported.

“We wanted to support our local seafood industry and worked with long-time partners and local fishers to produce a wild-caught, Australian made product that is snap-frozen for maximum freshness, quality, and convenience.”

With the plan to also make lesser-known, sustainable fish varieties more mainstream, the product range will expand in the coming months adding the likes of Threadfin salmon and the white-fleshed pomfret. There’ll even be recipes for how to cook the fish from the Gambaro restaurants’ executive chef available via QR code on the packs.

“Our fish is caught off the coast near Karumba in Northern Queensland, and in the Gulf of Carpentaria,” Mr Gambaro said.

“We believe this is important because we can be sure of the consistency of product quality and freshness – while also using local produce, and supporting the Qld seafood industry.”
