Too tired to cook? Or even get out of the car to buy food? No problem. Lasagne drive-through is now on the menu in central Brisbane.
The innovation has proved so popular that half a tonne of the multi-layered pasta dish flew out of the door and into the cars of hungry devotees on the first day of business last Friday.
Conceived by Jerome Dalton, of Dalton Catering and CJ’s Pasta, when last week’s sudden lockdown led to the cancellation of his catering events, Dalton says such is the interest that he is going to keep it going on Friday afternoons from 1-6pm.
“It been extremely popular,” he said, with 400 or more lasagnes made on the first day of drive-through business in Fortitude Valley’s Prospect Street.
“We’ll keep it going on Fridays after work, where people can pre-order if they want it hot, or just drive up and pick up a cold one,” he says, noting that he already has more than 100 orders for this week.
Lasagnes available include a 1.2kg beef version for $50, 3kg for $100, a 3kg sandcrab option for $120 and a vegetarian 3kg for $100.
All come with cheesy garlic focaccia.
A salumi box is also on offer as is a brief range of sparkling and still wines including a Tuscan chianti.
