Hospitality staff listen up: Brisbane’s $3b Queens Wharf is on a recruitment drive to find a whopping 400 new employees, offering everything from bonus schemes to free food and discounted dining and accommodation to lure in workers.
The Star general manager of food, beverage and events Dustin Osuch said the roles included waitstaff, venue managers and supervisors, support services, chefs and more to work across many of the precincts new restaurants, bars and live music venues.
“We’ve got to find almost double the staff we currently have,” he said.
“It’s going to be difficult, but I’m cautiously optimistic.”
Mr Osuch said The Star wanted to attract as many Queenslanders to the roles as possible, but would also be looking to overseas talent and those on student visas if they couldn’t find sufficient applicants.
“This is going to be one of the best destinations in Australia and it’s really going to put Brisbane on the map so hopefully we get a lot of people apply who want to be part of that,” he said.
Also tipped to lure in staff would be a range of benefits including free food, with all staff on shift fed in The Star’s staff restaurant; discounts on dining and accommodation at Star restaurants and properties, free laundry facilities, 16 weeks paid parental leave, “competitive salaries” and bonuses for some roles.
“I think the biggest drawcard though is our great career paths and the opportunities our staff have for growth within the business,” Mr Osuch said.
Some of the new ventures at Queens Wharf will include an Italian and Japanese restaurant, Luke Nguyen’s famous Fat Noodle eatery, yet-to-be-announced signature and premium dining venues, the upcoming Cherry Bar, a state-of-the-art sports bar, cocktails bars and a food court.
The Star’s recruitment drive kicks off now, with roles starting from as early as next month ahead of Queens Wharf’s staggered opening in April next year.
