A sassy and fun new girl is strutting her way into Brisbane’s Newstead with the upcoming arrival of Maggie May.
Taking over the Gasworks site previously home to The Defiant Duck, Maggie May will be a glam, ’70s-inspired supper club from the group behind the likes of Lefty’s Music Hall, Finn McCool’s and The Lord Alfred, Hallmark Hospitality.
“We wanted to do something different,” Hallmark’s director Joe Heanensaid.
“A supper club was associated with fun, social environments where people would hang out with friends and eat great food and have even better drinks and we’re trying to get all of the fun of the seventies into one venue.”
The whopping space along Longland St will have seating for up to 400 guests inside and under a covered terrace, with the playful ’70s-inspired fitout in a colour palette of rust, mustard and moss being imagined by world-renowned designer Borhan Ghofrani.
“We’re really keen for it to be an authentic, playful, energetic and endearing environment and certainly not pretentious.
“We want it to be a place where everyone can come and feel comfortable,” Heanen said.
The venue will combine various drinking and dining areas.
While after-work drinks will be a primary focus, the venue also will be open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, moving from a smart cafe offering of a morning to a sexy, share-style menu at night, with a diverse range of wines and cocktails to match.
While the final menus are still being pulled together, Heanen hints that there could even be cheeky ’70s food throwbacks. Devils on horseback, say?
Maggie May is pushing for a late October opening.
