29 restaurants to open in new Brisbane dark kitchen

Brisbane is set for a culinary explosion with a new ‘dark kitchen’ featuring a whopping 29 restaurants for delivery-only by the likes of Uber Eats, Deliveroo and Menulog.

Queensland’s newest dark kitchen is set to open today, featuring a whopping 29 restaurants.

Chef Collective will be a hub for eateries offering delivery-only, with the collection of commercial kitchens servicing the likes of Uber Eats, Deliveroo and Menulog.

The purpose-built facility in Coorparoo, in Brisbane’s inner south, offers food vendors a cost-effective way to trial a new business concept or expand their existing customer base without the expense of a restaurant fit-out.

“COVID-19 brought with it a huge jump in demand for food delivery, a demand that hasn’t abated even as restaurants and cafes reopen,” Mark Heath from Chef Collective said, with the Australia food delivery market expected to grow to $3.2 billion by 2022.

The new culinary precinct will include vendors such as Brisbane’s Seoul Bistro and Miss Claudes Crepes.

“Operating a delivery-only kitchen within Chef Collective in Coorparoo is a low-cost, low-risk

set-up that allows us to test the southside market, see how it performs and decide whether

it is a good area for a bricks-and-mortar location,” said co-owner of Miss Claudes Crepes Justin Knudson.

Chef Collective plans to launch more delivery-only kitchens across Brisbane and in major cities and centres throughout Australia and New Zealand.
