QUEENSLAND’s movie industry has stolen the spotlight, with Warner Bros Pictures unveiling an epic behind-the-scenes video of Aquaman filming in the state.

The three-minute clip gave unprecedented insight into the Village Roadshow Studios set of the $221 million superhero blockbuster, which filmed across southeast Queensland last year — including at Currumbin Beach, The Spit, North Stradbroke Island and Hastings Point in northern NSW.
In one scene showcasing sweeping shots of Queensland beaches, Jason Momoa sprinted up the sand while Willem Dafoe engaged in a shoreline fight scene and Nicole Kidman, as Queen Atlanna, was collapsed on the rocks.
The lighthouse at Hastings Point, purpose-built for the film, was captured surrounded by cameras hanging from cranes.

Inside the Village Roadshow Studios soundstage was a green room of plants made to look like a rainforest, a circular dome where the characters battled, underwater vessels and ships suspended under rain machines, and camera crews set up inside a purpose-built whale’s head.
Momoa, who plays the titular character, was captured filming in the Oxenford studio’s 1200sq m water tank, which is one of the largest purpose-built film water tanks in the world, holding six megalitres of water.
“The trick and the fun is designing a whole different world that we’ve never seen before,” Australian director James Wan says in the featurette.
“You’re pretty much just limited by your own imagination”.
Kidman adds: “The appeal of it was to step into something else. You really are invigorated because of it.”
Aquaman injected $144 million into the local economy and created more than 1000 jobs, including 700 roles for local extras.
It was the latest in a string of blockbusters to film in the state, following the success of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, Kong: Skull Island and Thor: Ragnarok.
Last week Warner Bros announced Momoa would return to the Gold Coast to walk the blue carpet for the Australian premiere of the film on December 18, ahead of the film’s release on Boxing Day.
