The Oriental Hotel
17/20
Contemporary$$
A few years ago this would not have been the pub of choice for a memorable meal; now it's outstanding. It is on the expensive side, with prices of up to $31 for daily specials, but the quality is there. Everything is home made, including the dips that come with the parmesan-battered eggplant and the excellent sorbet and gelato cake, which was accompanied by toffee-glazed thin fruit slices. Pork belly slices were crunchy with a layer of creamy fat, served with a colourful salad. The menu varies from the usual pub fare, with Kashmiri chicken and kangaroo loin on the specials board.
