Avalon's main street, a stone's throw from the beach, is littered with suitably laid-back restaurants. Sandwiched between a patisserie and a cafe, Sky Thai serves fast and fresh Thai classics. Satay chicken is an early winner with whole pieces of chicken fillet marinated in satay spices and grilled, a surprising change from the usual culprits made with chicken off-cuts. Serving sizes vary between a retro basil chicken stir-fry with vegetables and chilli; a modest pad Thai; and an overflowing Panang curry. While some dishes are as dated as the decor, this is quickly forgiven with the speedy service and cheap and cheerful prices.
