To salvage is to save for future use - and barista-mates Toby Cutler, Matt Gotto and Dan Yee have not only salvaged a cute little shop in Artarmon's Japanese-oriented cul-de-sac, they've salvaged most of the furniture and fittings as well. Coffee ($3.50) is freshly roasted Mecca Espresso's Dark Horse blend, all toasty nutmeg and candied orange; pastries are from St Malo in Crows Nest, and the short-and-sweet menu runs to ricotta and (salvaged) honey on sourdough. Keep an eye out for kitchen specials on weekends, when there's more time to play. 'It's a work in progress', says Yee, as are plans for a wine bar.
