Parkview Hotel

14.5/20

Contemporary$$$

Built in 1865, this two-storey hotel faces leafy Robertson Park. The bistro menu is extensive and meals are liberal. A special of crisp-skinned duck breast with roasted kipfler potatoes and pumpkin needed a little more cooking as the skin was not crisp. However the pumpkin had lovely blackened edges and the spuds were buttery and crisp. A generous bowl of vibrant orange paella is packed with seafood, chicken and chorizo but it lacks the subtle saffron flavour one expects and the rice is overcooked. Italian-style doughnuts come hot and dusted with cinnamon sugar and warm chocolate-Frangelico dipping sauce but are chewy.
