Modern Australian$$

Locals are loving this freshly renovated, easygoing pub where the Flaming Steer bistro offers weekday lunch and evening blackboard specials and a menu with something for everyone. Despite its name there are quite a few vegetarian choices. Salt-and-pepper squid is tender, more herb flavour than salt and pepper, while the Thai beef salad has tender strips of beef and fresh tangy salad with soy and sesame hinting beyond Thai borders. Local Blickling chardonnay and a schooner of James Squire One Fifty Lashes help lunch along and lead to a happy afterthought of home-toasted waffle with butterscotch and ice-cream.
