Social enterprise serves Sri Lankan food on Enmore Road
Enmore Road might just have a new quick-fix contender when the melted bone marrow and pulled pork lamb pan roll debuts at Colombo Social, which opens its doors today.
The restaurant, which marries Sydney's seemingly insatiable taste for Sri Lankan food and social enterprise start-ups, is just a few doors along from Queen Chow.
Colombo Social's kitchen has influences as eclectic as the strip on which it operates.
Executive chef Chamara Pathirange trained under David Britton, while head chef Nadeem Ismail was mentored by Swiss chef Anton Mosimann.
Beetroot and caramelised onion bahjis sit on the menu alongside corn tossed in garlic then lathered in ghee and pepper paste.
The cured kingfish is served with pickled beets and mango coconut manjuje, while signature "roti" tacos are filled with soft shell crab.
The feel-good venue, which trains asylum seekers, pumps out the rum-based Coconut Colada while offering a nod to Colombo Social's underlying mission.
The non-alcoholic Aunty's Tamarind Ginger Tonic supports villages in Sierra Leone.
Open Tue-Fri 5pm-late; Sat noon-late; Sun noon-10pm.
159 Enmore Road, Enmore, colombosocial.com.au
