Scott Pickett is adding yet another CBD venue to his portfolio, this time taking aim at the workaday lunch. After opening two city venues in 2020 – Longrain and Chancery Lane – the chef has just unveiled cafe-grocer Le Shoppe.

Beautiful booths for breakfast meetings, a likeable lunch menu and office catering will be welcome news for those toiling in glass towers at the west end of the city.

Occupying the space that briefly held Shannon Bennett's Benny Burger, Le Shoppe shares the same chef as Pickett's neighbouring Euro bistro, Chancery Lane.

Rob Kabboord's deli menu walks a similar line of revisited classics, including crepes Suzette, croque-monsieur and a confit duck sandwich, along with quiche Lorraine and a daily hot roast roll – perhaps dry-aged sirloin or pork belly and crackling – to go. Soups, packaged salads, and pastries from Ned's round out the menu, while Merchant Coffee Roasters is the bean of choice.

Timber joinery, copper fixtures and cabinets flaunting house-made terrines, saucisson sec, and cheese from La Luna, Pyengana and beyond will elevate your grocery shopping. But think antipasti rather than dinner. Shelves hold Portuguese conservas, ritzy potato chips and, soon, bottled cocktails and wine. A Wednesday to Saturday happy hour will also kick off within the month.
