Quick Brown Fox Eatery serves congee to cafe crowd
Step aside smashed avo, there's a new kid on the cafe set. Breakfast congee.
"I've eaten at every cafe around town and if there's a new movement on the way it has to be Tomi's breakfast congee," says Ben Calabro.
Tomi is consultant chef Tomislav Martinovic, the former chef-owner at the chef's hatted Tomislav restaurant and a member of the Fat Duck alumni.
Calabro and his sister Emily have snapped up Cafe Pyrmont (previously Cafe XXII) where they've just put on Martinovic's menu, with plans in coming months for a Studio MKZ redesign.
"We're calling it Quick Brown Fox Eatery, but I think it'll be known as QBF," Calabro says.
The brother and sister duo owned and sold a number of cafes in Sydney before snapping up the "cottage" on Union Street.
They make most things from scratch, including chicken stock.
And there's the congee. "It comes with maple bacon but you can have it with blue swimmer crab or fried chicken instead. There's enoki mushroom in it, chilli oil and a fried egg on top ... Tomi probably won't like me saying it, but it's like a cross between a congee and risotto."
Open Mon-Fri 6am-4pm; Sat-Sun 7am-4pm.
Quick Brown Fox Eatery, 22 Union Street, Pyrmont.
