Trump’s assault on aid costs lives and ‘opens the door to China’

The US president’s attack on foreign aid has already led to deaths and is an invitation to Beijing to win hearts and minds in the Pacific and across our region.

In central Uganda, the patients at Kiwoko Hospital are paying the price of Donald Trump’s and Elon Musk’s determination to cut US foreign aid.

As the wet season approaches, the supplies of US-funded anti-malaria drugs are running low, according to former Westpac and Suncorp board member Audette Exel, whose Adara Group helps fund the hospital, which serves a catchment of 1 million people.
