Australian rescue teams race to Vanuatu after huge earthquake
Wellington | Australian medical and search and rescue teams will be deployed to Vanuatu on Wednesday as part of a frantic scramble to find survivors after a massive earthquake levelled large parts of the Pacific island’s capital Port Vila, claiming at least 14 lives and injuring hundreds more.
No Australians had been reported missing or injured as of Tuesday evening, although the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade said it was aware a number of Australians were present in the region and was providing consular assistance.
