US senators urge Biden, Australia to step up Pacific diplomacy

Washington | Senior US senators are pressing the Biden administration and the Australian government to step up security planning in Solomon Islands and other Pacific islands to fend off Chinese efforts to widen its regional influence.

The Biden administration has so far downplayed the threat of China’s security deal with Solomon Islands, suggesting the US relationship with the nation was stronger than any such agreement with Beijing.
