US bankers shrug off Trump’s tariff blitz despite inflation alarm

Inflation data reveals the first signs of Trump’s tariffs pushing up prices, but JPMorgan and Citi executives said CEOs were getting comfortable in the uncertainty.

Washington | Some big bank profit results and inflation data have given timely insight into the US economy and a warning sign of where the next risk may come – a disconnect between business leaders and their customers.

On the latter, inflation figures for June released on Tuesday (Wednesday AEST) showed an acceleration in price rises, especially in goods that are widely imported – likely revealing the effect of tariffs – such as clothing, appliances, toys and household furnishings.
