In 18 years living outside her US homeland, Tala Booker has never felt the reach of a presidential election campaign as much as this one.

“The ad spend has gone through the roof. They’re saying that expat voices do matter, and they’ve been pushing us to vote,” says Ms Booker, a communications executive who now lives in Sydney.
