Republicans refuse to give up on Trump
The billionaire showman this week pleaded not guilty to charges of mishandling classified documents. But the legal drama hasn’t dented his standing with his fans.
Last Monday night in a packed room at the Capitol Hill Club, a block away from Congress, the DC Young Republicans hosted Donald Trump’s former assistant attorney-general Jeffrey Clark to give his view on the first federal indictment of a US president.
Unlike Trump’s former attorney-general William Barr, who said this week that the former president was “toast” if even half the charges of mishandling classified documents were true, Clark dismissed the indictment vigorously and conceived of a plan that would see the 45th president escape jail time.
