Israel-Hamas war adds pressure on US Congress to get back to work
Washington | The weekend’s bloody assault on Israel by Hamas has given fresh urgency to the search by US House Republicans for a new Speaker, and for legislators to push through budget approval for financial aid to democracies at war, including Israel.
The key US ally in the Middle East, which has just launched a fierce assault on Gaza in retaliation for Saturday’s surprise incursion, received $US3.3 billion ($5.1 billion) in military support last fiscal year.
