Chicago | In Chicago’s poor black neighbourhoods, potential voters have a sobering and perhaps surprising message for Kamala Harris, the first woman of colour to head a national presidential ticket.

Across town at the Democrats’ national convention, some of the party’s biggest stars, including hometown heroes Barack and Michelle Obama, are calling on a collection of young, coloured and other critical voting groups to embrace Ms Harris for president.
