The background of security fears led to a different type of inaugural ceremony, but one which carried significant meaning for Americans.
“Democracy has prevailed,” President Joe Biden proclaimed on Wednesday (Thursday AEDT) on the steps of the US Capitol, where just two weeks ago a violent mob of his predecessor’s supporters attempted to force the nation in a markedly different direction.
Redemption and reclamation were the themes of the televised and livestreamed inauguration of the 46th President of the United States and the 49th Vice-President, Kamala Harris.
