Seven decades ago Charlie Shahin’s parents were forced out of Palestine. This weekend he is on the way back to the Middle East, on a pilgrimage prompted by the mounting deaths in Gaza.
His family went on to build a billion-dollar retail empire in Australia, but Mr Shahin, a devout Muslim, has found it impossible to look away from the conflict sparked by the October 7 terrorist attacks on Israel by Hamas.
