Blinken’s peace ambitions rely on the Taliban

Washington | In 1973, after winning a Nobel Peace prize for his efforts to withdraw the US from the Vietnam War, then US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger refused to attend the award ceremony, gave the prize money to charity and offered to hand back the Nobel medal.

At least another 120 US service members would die in Vietnam between Kissinger winning his prize and when that war finally came to an end two years later in similarly chaotic scenes as the latest Afghanistan withdrawal.
