London | Rishi Sunak has urged fractious Conservative MPs to unite behind his premiership, after he on Monday (Tuesday AEDT) staged an extraordinary comeback from defeat against Liz Truss two months ago to seize his party’s leadership unopposed.

The 42-year-old former chancellor was set to formally become Britain’s prime minister late on Tuesday (AEDT). He is the youngest holder of the job in more than 200 years, and the first ethnically Asian leader of the increasingly diverse United Kingdom.
