Boxing, one of the Olympics’ most “pure” and accessible sports, could be axed for the 2028 Games. The Aussies say this would be “a crime against humanity”.

Paris | There are Olympic sports at which Australia dazzles, and there are sports where it fizzles. Boxing has always been one of the also-rans: just six medals in 116 years, not one of them gold.

This year, Australia’s boxers are hoping to rewrite that story. A dozen athletes are readying for the ring in Paris; it is the biggest and most diverse team yet assembled, and at least five could plausibly top the podium.
