Aung San Suu Kyi's National League for Democracy is expected to push ahead with ambitious development plans in its second five-year term, after a strong showing in Myanmar's general election on Sunday.
International investors who have ventured into the emerging democracy have welcomed the NLD victory. With Myanmar's GDP growth set to flat-line this year because of the pandemic, the regulatory reforms and bureaucratic overhauls needed to attract development capital are even more pressing. The re-elected NLD government can build on the regulatory bedrock it put in place in its first term – and hopefully pick up the pace.
