Malaysia's handbag queen faces trial for corruption

Kuala Lumpur | It was a day few Malaysians thought they would see: former prime minister Najib Razak and his influential wife Rosmah Mansor in neighbouring courtrooms in Kuala Lumpur's High Court, fighting to stay out of jail.

Ms Rosmah's corruption trial finally began on Wednesday after months of delays and last-minute uncertainty. Next door, her husband's defence team continued their questioning of a former Treasury official in the first of various trials related to the multibillion-dollar 1MDB scandal while Mr Najib looked on.
