Japan’s election mess goes well beyond its borders

Tokyo | Last Sunday morning, voters began arriving at the concrete forecourt of the Higashiyama Junior High School in Tokyo to cast their ballot in Japan’s snap general election.
In a country where people are notoriously media-shy, few were willing to give their names, but all were happy to talk about their discontent with the government.
