At his desk in the Myanmar city of Yangon, veteran activist U Ko Ko Gyi mentally reviews the map of his war-torn country. The military that deposed Aung San Suu Kyi’s government four years ago is under pressure he says. But they remain the most powerful force.
“I spent over 19 years in prison. I know my country very well. We may dislike the military, but to find a solution we have to deal with the generals,” he tells AFR Weekend.
