Australia’s new-look leadership plays well in Japan
The change of government in Australia presents the perfect opportunity to work on making our relationship with Japan deeper and richer.
Melanie BrockContributorI often lament Japan’s small – or non-existent – profile in Australia’s media. Well, I’ve had nothing to complain about in the past two weeks. Never have I heard Tokyo and Japan mentioned so often. How refreshing!
Much of the earlier commentary was about who might travel to Japan for the Quad summit, as in who would win the Australian election. Then it was all about the actual visit by our newly sworn in prime minister and foreign minister and their meetings with Joe Biden, Narendra Modi and the host, Fumio Kishida. Many Australian eyes were on Japan.
