ASEAN economies a bright spot amid gloomy outlook

Singapore | Inflation is fast becoming a major headache for policymakers in Asia trying to sustain the region’s recovery while their counterparts in Europe and the United States focus on slowing demand.

The Asian Development Bank has again lowered its growth expectations for Asia’s developing economies, with the region to expand by 4.3 per cent this year – down from 5.2 per cent – and 4.9 per cent in 2023. South-East Asia is the exception with its growth outlook improving in the last six months.
