Union boss says bribes a ‘moment of weakness’, pleads for no jail time

Corrupt CFMEU boss Darren Greenfield’s lawyer told a court his client gave in to temptation in “a moment of weakness” when he accepted tens of thousands of dollars in bribes from a subcontractor for favourable treatment on building sites.

Barrister Michael Ainsworth told the NSW District Court the former secretary of the CFMEU NSW branch and his son and former deputy, Michael, should be allowed to serve any custodial sentence in the community on the basis the $30,000 in bribes they received in $5000 payments were relatively small and an aberration.
