Why do companies that boast about high ethical principles find it so hard to follow them?

Last week, inspired by former Star Entertainment Group chief executive Matt Bekier, I bought a corporate code of conduct over the internet.

“[YOUR COMPANY NAME]” said the document, “will conduct its business ethically and honestly wherever we operate in the world. The ethical performance of this company is the sum of the ethics of the men and women who work here.”
