Path cleared for wantaway division to divorce ‘toxic’ CFMEU

The CFMEU’s manufacturing division has been granted the right to vote on splitting from the broader union, clearing the way for an exodus of 10,000 members by the middle of the year.

The Fair Work Commission late on Thursday gave the division approval to hold a ballot of members to demerge from the Construction Forestry Maritime Employees Union next month following a bitter five-year war with the construction union and its former Victorian leader John Setka.
