Minister gets broad powers to set conditions in truckie supply chain
The Albanese government will resurrect a federal system to set minimum pay for truckies, insisting the laws have broad industry support and won’t threaten competitiveness.
The government’s Closing Loopholes Bill, tabled in parliament on Monday, will empower an expert road transport panel within the Fair Work Commission to set minimum standards for owner-drivers, such as rates and “fair payment times”, and hear cases of unfair terminations of contracts.
