Gender data shows any lack of meritocracy is working in favour of men

Hopefully, employers will be able to use the gender pay gap data to counter the backlash from men who complain they are missing out on job promotions.

If young women want to earn a lot of money, they should aim for a career in broking, asset management or investment banking. They just need to be aware that the bloke sitting opposite will probably be earning a lot more. Possibly double, possibly more than double.

Women who want a half-decent salary, but aren’t fussed about moving up the corporate ladder, could consider mining.
