Giving victims of domestic violence paid time off work “shouldn’t be a lottery” that depends on the generosity of employers, argue businesses, unions and academics who want the federal government to make the entitlement universal.

On Monday, Business Council of Australia chief executive Jennifer Westacott said during the first day of the National Summit on Women’s Safety that paid domestic violence leave should be made a universal employment right.
