Hundreds of train drivers at BHP’s lucrative iron ore operations in Western Australia will kick off the sector’s first industrial action in decades as workers revolt against “unpredictable” treatment of working conditions.

The 397 drivers, who are critical to carrying millions of tonnes of iron ore from BHP’s Pilbara mines near Newman to Port Hedland, will start an industrial campaign this Friday with an indefinite ban on mobile rostering apps to prevent automatic changes to their hours without personal contact.
