The women in the running to be the next big bank CEO
Some are working at the top level inside the major lenders, others are leading banks just outside the big four – and experts say they are all close to reaching the pinnacle as chief executive.
The pool of senior female bankers who could step up to run one of the big four lenders has never been deeper.
Not since Gail Kelly ran Westpac between 2008 and 2015 has a woman been atop one of the majors – although notably, Shemara Wikramanayake has been at the helm of Macquarie Group since 2018.
