Two SA universities look to merge and create top 100 contender

South Australia’s two largest universities have formally agreed to investigate a full merger, with the new institution to be operational by January 2026 if all goes to plan.

The University of Adelaide and the University of South Australia say the merger will catapult the new institution, to be called Adelaide University, into the top of the world rankings. The new university would have 70,000 students and 3100 staff.
