Melbourne has secured the title of Australia’s higher education capital after Monash University leapfrogged two others to be named the nation’s second-best university in the most recent world ranking.

Monash achieved the enviable feat of rising 13 places in just one year to come in as the 44th-best university in the world, 10 spots behind its neighbour the University of Melbourne on the Times Higher Education World University Ranking 2023.
