Ombudsman could step in when unis fail on sexual assault

A new national student ombudsman could directly instruct vice chancellors on how to resolve sexual assault cases in universities, including reimbursing tuition fees of students affected by abuse.

Under a proposed action plan, the ombudsman would review cases that were not adequately addressed by institutions, and would take on other student-centred issues such as tuition fees, loans and course administration complaints.
