Businesses are in a “sustained operational crisis” as economic uncertainty, challenges stemming from the energy transition and lingering disruptions caused by the pandemic add layers of complexity to once simple tasks, leading executives say.

New pressure points are erupting as skill shortages collide with stubborn inflation, rising costs and “some pretty big black swan events” such as the war in Ukraine that are complicating supply chains and rewriting global expenditures on defence.
