Official figures have yet to be released, but Australia’s superannuation pool has probably reached $4 trillion and SMSFs hold a quarter of that. Both are significant milestones and reflect the success of the retirement savings system.

But with such vast wealth spread across 600,000 SMSFs, this trillion-dollar honeypot has become an irresistible target for global hackers. With an average of two members per fund, that’s a potential 1.2 million access points for hackers to exploit.
