Early release scheme expires with $36b withdrawn super

Up to $1 billion could have been wrongly applied to be withdrawn from superannuation under the Morrison government's coronavirus early release scheme, according to estimates from the Australian Tax Office.

Between 2 per cent and 4 per cent of people who applied to withdraw money from their retirement savings under the scheme were ineligible, an ATO spokesman indicated.
