The top 20 stocks by dividend return this year

Insurers, miners and fund managers were the top performers, but experts warn of income traps.

Lenders’ mortgage insurance provider Helia, miner New Hope and fund manager Magellan were the three S&P/ASX 200 companies reporting the highest dividend returns so far in the 2024 financial year, while miner Red 5, healthcare imaging company Pro Medicus and tech company Life360 led for total returns, according to data by investment reporting tool Sharesight.

“We looked at the performance of these stocks from the period of July 1, 2023 to June 21, 2024 through the lenses of capital growth and dividend return,” Sharesight spokesman Prashant Mohan says.
